Until that is finally resolved, I think Microsoft will find it hard to keep with Sony and Nintendo, no matter how much talent they buy up. It just needs to be supported and nurtured and unfortunately Microsoft has often fallen on the bad side of this.

It was a management one and unfortunately a good chunk of talent staff paid the price for it. Microsoft's) handling of the Halo franchise but you can't tell me that it was a talent issue. I guess I'm frustrated with people talking about how many employees will be under Microsoft when while this was going on, Microsoft laid off a bunch of employees from 343. They were well ahead of Sony, let them catch up, and then sprint by them and largely because of things Microsoft did or didn't do themselves. The main point is that they aren't some underdog.

Like literally when I open my Windows PC, I see shit for Xbox. It's to hammer the point that they have a lot of money and as a part of a large tech firm, they have access to tools, tech, and advertising that the other manufactures don't have. I don't care how many employees now work at Microsoft. But there are a few Xbox games I have my eye on. Of announced and revealed games, there are no Sony first party games I am really looking forward to. There lineup for the next few years looks really promising. The reason why are they are third in place is because of their own decisions. But like I said, they are a trillion dollar company that has over 20 years of experience in the videogame space at this point. Microsoft wanted people to believe that they are at a disadvantage compared to Sony or Microsoft. That's the frustrating part about being a fan of their games. The reason why they needed to buy studios in the first place because of the talent they bleed and the poor utilization of the talent they do have.

Stupid contractor policies that only allow them to work on games for a set amount of time. Chasing the short term money making schemes at the cost of long term success. The issue, in my opinion, was always how management ran Xbox. They have talented developers working at their studios throughout the Xbox One generation. I was of the opinion that Microsoft had the talent and resources to compete before the Activision deal, heck even before the Bethesda deal.
